EDWARDSVILLE — A man who was born and raised in Wood River claims he suffered injuries from exposure to PFAS.
Timothy Blasa filed a complaint on Nov. 21 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Shell USA and others, alleging negligence and other claims.
According to his complaint, Blasa was born and raised in Wood River and consumed the water supplied by the City of Wood River for many years. He claims the water contained elevated levels of per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemicals. Blasa further claims that due to being exposed and ingesting the toxic PFAS chemicals over a long period of time, he developed testicular cancer. He alleges the defendants knew or should have known of the contamination to the City of Wood River’s water supply and failed to warn to hazard. He also alleges the defendants failed to eliminate the leaking, spilling, dumping and discharging of the toxic PFAS chemicals into the air, surface and ground where he lived.
Blasa seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, plus interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Ted Gianaris and Joshua Edelson of Gianaris Trial Lawyers LLC in Alton.
