EDWARDSVILLE – A motorist is being sued for allegedly causing a fatal crash after drinking a bottle of watermelon liquor.

The lawsuit was filed by plaintiff Victoria Loving, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Frank J. Fisher, in the Madison County Circuit Court against Roris Q. Moody Jr., Lobana Real Estate LLC, and SSR Market Inc.

According to the complaint, Moody allegedly drank a bottle of watermelon liquor after purchasing the alcohol from a store owned by Lobana Real Estate LLC and SSR Market Inc. Moody allegedly operated a vehicle while intoxicated and fatally struck Fisher on June 6, 2023, in Granite City.

The suit states that Moody failed to keep a proper lookout for Fisher’s vehicle, failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to avoid a collision, drove in excess of the legal speed limit, and operated his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Lobana Real Estate and SSR Market are being sued for allegedly selling alcohol to Moody, which resulted in the fatal crash.

Loving seeks compensation for funeral and burial expenses, loss of money, loss of benefits, and emotional distress. She is represented by attorney Joshua Edelson of Gianaris Trial Lawyers.
